Use a sequence, not a single “magic” step

Pet hair removal works best when you reduce loose fur before washing, avoid overloading the machine, and give loosened hair somewhere to go during drying. Heavily furred fleece, knits and pet blankets often benefit from mechanical removal before they enter the washer.

  1. Shake or brush off loose hair first. A lint roller or reusable fabric tool can keep excess fur out of the machine.
  2. Follow the fabric-care label. Heat, agitation and additives that are safe for one textile may be wrong for another.
  3. Do not pack the drum tightly. Laundry needs room to move so hair can separate from fabric.
  4. Clean the lint system after drying. Removing collected debris helps the next load start cleaner.

What the washer can—and cannot—do

A washer can loosen and carry away some hair, but it can also move fur from one item to another. Pre-cleaning heavily coated pieces helps reduce that transfer. If you use a pet-hair-specific detergent or laundry aid, follow its label and your machine manual.

Why the dryer often matters

Tumbling can separate loose strands from fabric, and the lint filter gives that debris a collection point. Use only settings appropriate for the garment or blanket. For delicate or air-dry-only textiles, use a fabric-safe manual removal method instead.

When a dedicated laundry product makes sense

Clean Revolution markets its Pet Hair Remover Laundry System as a detergent-and-fabric-softener pair using what it calls HairLift Technology. The brand says the system is designed to loosen embedded pet hair in the wash and reduce re-clinging later. Treat that as a manufacturer claim rather than a guarantee for every fabric or pet.
