Blankets need more pre-cleaning than shirts
Large soft surfaces collect a lot of loose fur. Shake the blanket outdoors where appropriate, then use a fabric-safe hair-removal tool before washing. This reduces the amount of debris entering the machine.
Check the care label before using heat
Some blankets tolerate tumble drying; others do not. Heat and aggressive cycles can damage delicate fibers, waterproof layers or specialty fills.
Do not combine heavily furred blankets with normal clothing
Separate loads make it easier to control transfer and clean the washer/dryer lint areas afterward.
